New research shows that new mothers who breastfeed their babies for longer periods of time may have a reduced risk of diabetes, at least for the first 15 years after giving birth.
Researchers found that for each year of breastfeeding there was a 15% reduction in the risk of diabetes for the mother. This proved to be true even after taking other variables into consideration. The risk reduction was limited to the first 15 years after that the benefits diminished. .
But breastfeeding is good for babies and it is good for mothers.
