A recent study from researchers at Brigham Young University has suggested that rather than “dieting” a new approach called “intuitive eating” will work better at producing lower cholesterol levels, body mass index and risk of cardiovascular diseases.
The idea is for us to listen and take heed to our internal cues, try to recognize what our bodies need and want and regulate how much we eat based on hunger and satiety.
You can read the entire article at Intuitive Eating.
It sounds really good, like the way nature intended. I don’t know about you but I don’t think that many of the fad diets are very nature friendly. Counting calories, carbs, fat grams, depriving yourself of bananas or oranges just doesn’t make sense (but depriving yourself of Oreo’s does make sense, sorry!).
If we could learn to listen our bodies will tell us what they need. I’m sure of it. Its just that our culture is so diet, food, skinny, body obsessed that we forget to listen to our bodies. Most of us don’t even realize our bodies can tell us what we need. How do we get to the point where we listen, feel and intuit what we need nutritionally and stop hearing that bag of potato chips screaming our names? If I hear more I’ll keep you posted. This has captured my interest!
