Today is the Great American Smokeout. Even if you have smoked already today, it’s not too late, start now see if you can not smoke for the rest of the day.
I just read an article about the high costs of smoking, besides the fact that cigarettes themselves tend to be quite expensive ranging from about $3.33 per pack in the state of Missouri to as high as $6.46 in the state of Maine, there are many other things that smokers just pay more for- Insurance for one thing, not just health and life insurance but car and homeowners too. Then there are things like dry cleaning, dental bills, repainting your house because of the yellow tar on the walls and having to sell your used car for less just because you can’t get the smoke smell out of it. There are some companies these days that are refusing to hire smokers, in fact the ACLU’s National Workrights Institute estimates that more than 6000 companies refuse to hire smokers, and even though this seems to be overt discrimination, at this point it is not against the law in most states. Rising health and benefits costs are most often cited as justification.
All in all, smoking has a higher cost than many realize. Today is a good day to Quit. Keep trying, Quit now!
