Are You Thinking To Decide If You Want To Have Natural Miscarriage Or D&c?

Natural miscarriage

I’m writing this article about natural miscarriage because when I had a miscarriage and I couldn’t find a lot of information about it on the internet at that time. I hope my story will help other women who are having a miscarriage right now.

Trying to decide
Is it better to have d&c done or have natural miscarriage.
It depends. Different people have different opinions. Some doctors advice patients to have d&c to avoid infections, but other doctors prefer natural miscarriage.

If your baby died at 8 weeks or younger, I would definitely try miscarry naturally first before doing any operations. Why is that?
I had miscarriage myself, my baby died around 8 weeks old and I miscarried at 14 weeks.

I heard many stories when a woman’s child died at 8 weeks old but doctors schedule d&c as soon as possible to avoid infections. Many patients don’t know what to do and listen to what doctor is going to tell. It’s always better to have a second opinion.

My doctor preferred natural miscarriage and I’m glad. I didn’t have any complications after my miscarriage, everything came out good and my uterus was clean naturally. Some women have to have d&c anyway after natural miscarriage if all tissues didn’t come out.

My story
Sometimes women have to have d&c done even after natural miscarriage. I’m glad it didn’t happen to me. It would be so stressful to go through both natural miscarriage and d&c also. This is why many women choose to do d&c because they want to be sure to get over it as soon as possible.
I waited about 6 weeks before my miscarriage happened. Bleeding was about one month. Miscarriage happened after 2 weeks of bleeding started and everything came out in one day. Then I had bleeding for a few weeks after that.

Some women don’t have patience to carry a dead baby for 6 weeks and wait whether natural miscarriage will occur or not. My nurse told me some women miscarry naturally, but some women never miscarry and have to schedule d&c anyway.
It was long time to wait for my miscarriage but I’m glad I waited.

Why I didn’t chose d&c operation?
I wanted to trust nature more than doctors. Sometimes doctors make a mistakes too and I didn’t want to be somebody’s mistake. There are also some complications can be from d&c, so after reading and researching about it, I decided to take a risk and try natural miscarriage first.

In my experience natural miscarriage wasn’t very painful. I thought it would be a lot worse but it wasn’t. Natural miscarriage wasn’t very painful at all. On a scale from 1 to 10 it was maybe about 3-4, I could easily tolerate it. It wasn’t pleasant, and I was tired going through these painful contractions for many hours, but it wasn’t horrible at all. You could handle this pain even without medication.

I had mild contractions for all night, then I had stronger contractions during a day for 4 hours and my baby “fall out” then. In my last hour of contractions before miscarriage occurred I took some pain relief medication but it just made me sleepy and dizzy and I don’t think it reduced my pain at all.
Pain wasn’t very bad, if it was really bad I would go to the emergency room immediately.
Of course there was a lot of blood right when a baby appeared but bleeding decreased a lot in a few hours.

Natural miscarriage actually isn’t that scary as it sounds. I know there are many women are afraid or not sure if they should try natural miscarriage.
You can try it if your baby isn’t very big yet, you could handle it very well.
Seeing your own baby is an amazing experience too. Baby was just like real baby but about 1 inch big, looking like he was asleep. Hope my experience will help you to decide if you want to try naturally miscarry or not.
