10,000 Steps Every Day
Our bodies were not designed to be sedentary. None of our ancestors could be classified as ‘couch potatoes’. Our bodies were designed to move and do things. Only in recent history has our culture become so idle that we no longer even get off the couch to change the TV channel. All of this slothfulness is taking a toll on our health, our waistlines and even our minds.
There is an easy fitness trend that is catching on, that anyone can do that can assist us in getting off the couch. The idea is to walk, just walk in everyday life, like we all do but to increase our steps to about 10,000 per day.
Counting every step along the way. The counting part is easy. You can buy a pedometer, a small device designed to count the steps. Pedometers range from quite cheap at $3 to $4 bucks on up to the more expensive models that have more bells and whistles. At first it may be difficult to get to 10000 steps but the awareness will help you increase your steps as you go. Park on the far side of the parking lot when you go to the store, take an extra trip around the mall when you go shopping, take a walk around the block, even do something as simple as taking 3 trips to the laundry room for just one load of laundry. The good thing is every single step can count.
If you commit to doing this your health will improve and you may lose some of that stubborn weight, calories in vs. calories burned you know. 10000 steps a day is very achievable and you know what, 10000 steps a day is approximately 5 miles, sounds like a lot but its pretty easy once you start counting!
