YOU on a Diet

Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen have brought us another “YOU” book. This one will likely outsell all of the rest combined just for the simple fact that it is about dieting. The fact that if they even think about writing a book they get to talk about it on Oprah helps too!

The information is a sound, basic, healthy living approach. You may not even need to read the book if you have some knowledge and use some basic common sense. Eat unprocessed natural foods. Avoid all food additives, especially trans fatty acids and high fructose corn syrup. Exercise moderately.

The benefits of Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen’s approach is biology. It tells us what to eat but it also tells us why. Our bodies were designed for food found in nature and for moving around. None of us were designed to be “fake foodie couch potatoes”.

They also stress that abdominal fat is the most dangerous to our health and they take into consideration that muscle weighs more than fat and the number on the scale is less important than the abdominal fat that we carry. So a measurement of circumference around your belly button, sucking in, should be less than 32 inches for women, and 35 inches for a man.

They recommend walking every day for at least 30 minutes and light weight training. They say to get a pedometer and walk 10000 steps which I have found to be impossible to do in just 30 minutes. Perhaps my legs are too short, I don’t know but it takes me longer than 30 minutes to get to 10000 steps. But that is beside the point. Walking every day for at least 30 minutes is beneficial regardless of how many steps you take.

So, right now there are quite a few healthy diets plans out there. If you like Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen’s approach then this may be the diet plan for “YOU”.
