Low Cholesterol Foods
There are 2 main causes of high blood cholesterol levels- diet and genetics. Genetics is pretty much set at birth. You really can’t decide to exchange your parents for a different set with lower cholesterol! But you can control your diet. A diet high in saturated fat is the main cause of high blood cholesterol levels but eating food high in cholesterol can raise your blood cholesterol levels also.
Not long ago I saw a jar of peanut butter that claimed that it was “cholesterol free” on the label. There must be some prevalent fallacies and myths about cholesterol out there for a peanut butter company to be promoting that it has no cholesterol because cholesterol is ONLY present in animal products. That’s right, if you are a vegen you don’t eat anything with cholesterol. There is no cholesterol in any plant products. Peanuts are a plant product, why would anyone even think there was cholesterol in peanut butter??
Foods that are high in cholesterol are often also high in saturated fat. Think butter and other full fat dairy products . Foods like beef, pork and egg yolks are also high in cholesterol. But brocolli, spinach and grapefruit-no cholesterol.
See, its easy. If you want to limit your dietary cholesterol, limit the animal products that you consume. Eat more vegies!
