There’s a new diet plan out there. It is called “The Cheater’s Diet”. Sounds good, huh? Sounds really good, if you don’t want to diet or eat well but just want to lose weight with no pain. Lose weight by cheating!
But all jokes aside, the plan is actually based on eating well and lowfat/low calorie for the 5 weekdays and then “cheating” on the weekends. It actually makes quite a bit of sense and has even been tried before.
Bill Phillips and the “Body for Life” eating plan has long advocated a “day off” so that you spend most every day eating well and then you can eat what you want for one day. One of the premises of the diet is that the higher calorie day keeps your body from going into starvation mode and hoarding calories.
It is a great plan for the people who feel that eating healthy is deprivation. They have something to look forward to. If a person can limit themselves to just the “day” or “days” if it happens to be two it probably is a great plan. But for the person who can’t stop eating poor food choices once they start it could be a disaster!
But nobody wants to believe that they can NEVER eat some of their favorite junk foods again. I don’t know about you but if I think I can’t have something I want it that much more! So even with a day off, moderation is the key. Even if it is a cheaters day you probably shouldn’t completely binge and eat an entire baker’s dozen of donuts!
