More on Carbs

10193thumbnailA recent large study of over 48,000 women ages 50 to 79 has determined that carbohydrates do not necessarily make you gain weight and it does not interfere with losing weight.

The answer, of course, lies in the types of carbs you consume. The women in the study actually increased their carb consumption from about 44% to 53% of their diet, but the increase in carbs came from fruits, vegetables and whole grains. There was a minimal weight loss in the dieters with the increased carb consumption.

Carbs from healthy sources such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains can be a part of a healthy diet or weight loss plan. Its the “white” carbs that can get you into trouble with your weight-white bread, white rice, donuts, Oreo’s, sugary soft drinks, candy, etc.
