10145 01Designing a fitness program does not have to be a daunting task. Even though there is so much information out there and there are books, magazines, webpages, friends, loved ones, and personal trainers all trying to give good advice, the thing to remember is that a personal fitness program can be just that-personal.

If you are just starting out a reasonable fitness goal may be to take a walk around the block everyday. You can expand from there. But it can get to be intimidating to be told that you have to work out at a gym for an hour everyday if you have been completely sedentary for years. You just need to get started somewhere.

What do you want to accomplish with your fitness program? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to improve your health? The great thing about that is usually if you do one, you get the other-lose weight, improve your health-improve your health, lose weight.

If you want to be really fit, it does take a commitment. A lifelong commitment. You can’t just exercise one time or exercise for one month and be fit. It takes a lifetime commitment. But the quality of your life will improve dramatically and soon being fit just becomes a part of your life.

I found a great website that can give you some great information about getting started from the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness fitness commitment
There is alot of information that is useful but don’t let it intimidate you if you are just a beginner. Just make a start by committing to taking a 10 minute walk after dinner. If its cold outside, walk in the mall. Make it easy on yourself and soon you will be able to reap the benefits of a fit lifestyle.
